Fungi are organisms that can grow in or on the body, causing infections of internal organs or of the skin, nails, and hair.
Mycology
Bread mold and mushrooms are among the most familiar examples of fungi (FUN-ji), organisms that grow in an irregular mass without roots, stems, or leaves. Fungi feed on other organisms, living or dead, and play an important role in helping dead plants and animals decay. Of the thousands of species of fungi, a few can cause human disease.
These fungi cause a wide range of illnesses, from minor skin conditions to life-threatening diseases. They produce two kinds of infections: systemic and superficial. Systemic infections affect internal organs. They often start in the lungs, but in severe cases may spread to the blood, heart, brain, kidneys, liver, or other parts of the body. Superficial infections affect the surface of the body, the skin, the nails, and the hair. They most often occur in moist areas, such as between the toes, in the crotch, or in the mouth.
What Are Superficial Fungal Infections?
Superficial fungal infections attack tissues on the surface of the body, which include the skin, nails, or hair. Some common examples are ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, and yeast infections. Candida yeast * infections are usually found on the skin, in the mouth, in the vagina, on the head of the penis, or around the nails. Superficial fungal infections are somewhat contagious and pass from person to person through direct contact or, less commonly, through clothes or contact with surfaces of other objects in the environment.
What Are Systemic Fungal Infections?
Some fungi are normally present in the body, kept under control by the body's immune system. If the immune system is abnormally weak, however, the fungi can grow out of control and cause illnesses. These are termed opportunistic infections. Among the most common opportunistic fungal infections that affect people are:
candidiasis
aspergillosis
phycomycosis
cryptococcosis
People with AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), people with leukemia (cancer of the blood cells), and people with Hodgkin's disease or other kinds of lymphoma (cancer of the immune system) are at risk for opportunistic fungal infections because their immune systems have been weakened. Such infections may also occur in people who are receiving radiation therapy or chemotherapy, or who are taking corticosteroids * or immunosupressant * drugs, such as the drugs a person takes after an organ transplant.
* corticosteroid (kor-ti-ko-STEER-oids) are medications that are prescribed to reduce inflammation and sometimes to suppress the body's immune responses.
* immunosuppressants (im-yoo-no-su-PRES-ants) are substances that weaken the body's immune system.
People who have received prolonged courses of antibiotics for treatment of serious bacterial infections are also at risk for fungal infections.
Other fungi cause illnesses even in otherwise healthy people with normal immune systems. In these cases, people inhale the spores (immature form) of fungi that normally live in the environment, especially the soil, in certain geographical areas.
What Are the Symptoms of Systemic Fungal Infections?
Systemic fungal infections often are chronic * and develop slowly, taking weeks or months to become a problem. Symptoms are sometimes similar to those of the common cold, but sometimes, especially in people with weakened immune systems, symptoms may be sudden and severe, requiring hospitalization. Symptoms may include cough, fever, chills, night sweats, anorexia (loss of appetite), weight loss, general fatigue, and depression.

Plísněmi označujeme organismy, které se tvoří uvnitř či vně organizmu (na těle) a způsobují záněty jak vnitřních orgánů, tak kůže, nehtů a vlasů.
Mykologie
Chlebová plíseň (kropidlovec černavý) a houby patří mezi nejznámější příklady plísní. Tyto organismy rostou v nepravidelném množství bez kořenů, stonků a listů. Živí se jinými organismy, živými nebo mrtvými a hrají důležitou roli v procesech rozkladu uhynulých živočichů a rostlin. Existuje tisíce druhů různých plísní, avšak jen některé mohou způsobit nemoc člověku.
A právě tyto plísně jsou příčinou široké škály onemocnění, od drobných kožních obtíží až k životu nebezpečným chorobám. Jsou původcem dvou druhů infekcí: systémových a povrchových. Systémové infekce postihují vnitřní orgány. Infekce často začínají v plicích, v závažných případech se mohou dále šířit do krve, srdce, mozku, ledvin, jater, nebo jiné části těla. Povrchové infekce se objevují na povrchu těla, kůži, nehtech a vlasech. Nejvíce se vyskytují ve vlhkých místech, např. mezi prsty, v rozkroku, nebo v ústech.
Co jsou povrchové infekce?
Povrchové infekce napadají tkáně na povrchu těla, tedy kůži, nehty nebo vlasy. Mezi běžné druhy patří lišej kroužkový, plíseň na nohou, indický ekzém nebo kvasinkové infekce. Kvasinkové infekce typu Candida obvykle nacházíme na kůži, v ústech, ve vagíně či na žaludu penisu, nebo kolem nehtů. Povrchové plísňové infekce jsou nakažlivé a přenáší se z člověka na člověka buď přímým kontaktem, nebo méně častěji dotykem s oblečením, povrchy nebo jinými předměty v prostředí.
Co jsou systémové infekce?
Některé plísně jsou běžnou součástí lidského těla, na uzdě je udržuje imunitní systém. Pokud je ale imunitní systém oslaben, mohou se tyto infekce vymknout kontrole a způsobit nemoc. Takovým infekcím říkáme oportunní infekce. Mezi nejběžnější oportunní infekce, které se vyskytují u lidí jsou:
candida
aspergilóza
zygomykóza
kryptokokóza
Lidé trpící na AIDS (syndrom získaného selhání imunity), leukémii (rakovina krevních buněk), s Hodgkinovou chorobou nebo dalšími typy lymfomů (rakovina imunitního systému) jsou více náchylní k oportunním infekcím, protože jejich imunitní systém je oslabený. Tyto infekce se mohou objevit také u lidí, kteří se léčí radioterapií nebo chemoterapií, nebo u lidí beroucích kortikosteroidy nebo imunosupresiva, jako například léky, které se podávají po transplantaci orgánu.
* kortikosteroidy jsou léky, které jsou předepisovány, aby zmírnily zánět a potlačily imunitní reakci těla.
* imunosupresiva jsou látky, které oslabují imunitní reakci těla.
Písňové infekce mohou postihnout také lidi, kteří již delší dobu berou antibiotika k léčbě bakteriálních infekcí.
Další plísně způsobují nemoci i jinak zdravým lidem s neoslabeným imunitním systémem. V těchto případech například lidé vdechnou spory (nevyvinutá forma) plísní, které obvykle žijí v prostředí, především v půdě některých geografických oblastí.
Jaké jsou symptomy systémové infekce?
Systémové infekce jsou často chronické * a vyvíjejí se pomalu; trvá týdny nebo měsíce, než pro člověka začnou představovat problém. Symptomy jsou někdy velmi podobné běžnému nachlazení, ale jindy, obzvláště u lidí s oslabeným imunitním systémem, mohou být symptomy náhlé a závažné a vyžadují hospitalizaci. Mezi symptomy může patřit kašel, horečka, zimnice, noční pocení, anorexie (ztráta chuti k jídlu), váhový úbytek, všeobecná únava a deprese.

FOOD
Definition of “eating well” is subject to multi-billion $ business and heated discussions. I will share how and what I eat, but whether you follow is purely your personal decision.
I have been on “low-carb/ ketogenic & gluten-free” diet for 3-4 years and never looked back. I ate and looked well even before, but excluding vast majority of carbs, any over-processed food gave me an energy kick I had not expected. I did not lose weight, but lost 1-2 (dress) sizes and any sport/ movement had double impact on how I looked and felt. Eating low-carb DOES NOT mean eating little – my portions are often double to what they were years ago ☺.
So what do I eat? Grilled meat/ fish of any kind, loads of eggs, high-fat milk products (cow/goat/sheep), fresh/ grilled veggies, nuts of any kind, fats of any kind and (small portions) of berries/ low-sugar fruits. I have put on 6-7kg (pre- pregnancy weight 53kg) and maintaining the quality of food intake, I did not worry once about the quantities (that were not insignificant ☺).
SWIMMING
Being an avid swimmer, I would follow a daily routine of 1-2km for over 5 years. Suffering from no complications & nausea, it was rather easy to maintain the swimming routine throughout 9 months in water temperatures ranging from 15•C (Atlantic Ocean) to 30•C (Indian Ocean).
Each swim had a double effect – strength & endurance build-up and a complete body relax. Hence, I have decided to experiment and increase daily drill to 3-5km whenever possible. Swimming slower, but longer also helped strengthen all muscle groups that started to suffer as my belly grew in size.
I also continued with Reformer & Mat Pilates work-outs which was admittedly easy being a certified teacher. And surfed waves of Portugal till week #20 ☺
YOGA
I have started with Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga 3-4 years ago to complement my Pilates teacher training. What I found intriguing was that progressing to next “level(s)” was as much a question of strength & diligence as that of mindset & commitment. Once I learnt basic sequence, not exercising regularly due to tough work-schedule was a poor excuse as I was free to practice anywhere and anytime.
3 weeks into my pregnancy (and having read both “conservative” and “liberal” articles about which positions to avoid/when/why), I have decided to stick to common sense. Hence the only piece of advice I dare offering to you is: “Listen to your body – think about possibilities rather than restrictions”. I continued with “regular” yoga classes and did not try any pre-natal class. It was astonishing to observe how through daily routine (in class or at home) my body got accustomed to its changing shape, shift of balance centers and weight increase.
Rotations – I did not stop with those, but adjusted angle & intensity to my belly shape. Planks – kept doing them without excuse and simply engage gluts & legs to help out abdominals. Inversions – surprisingly, I improved both my head and hand-stand. One basic rule I observed was to stop jumping – and hence every head/hand- stand required impeccable technique and strength. I continued with all other positions and found simple (though intensive) replacements for those “technically” impossible (lying on my stomach).
I am not discouraging you to opt for pre-natal yoga – especially if you have not had regular & long-term practice before being pregnant (then consider it a must!). However, give “regular” yoga a careful try if you are strong & experienced: guidance from a good teacher & your own body will not only keep you incredibly strong & flexible, but also self-confident and calm throughout often challenging 9 months...and months after birth itself.“

JÍDLO
Definice „Jíst zdravě“ je něco, co podléhá vášnivým diskuzím a obrovskému několikamiliardovému monstru jménem obchod. Řeknu vám, jak a co jím, ale pokud se tím budete řídit, je čistě na vás.
Už tři-čtyři roky spoléhám na nízkosacharidovou / ketogenní & bezlepkovou stravu a nelituji. Jedla jsem správně i vypadala dobře i předtím, ale to, že jsem ze své stravy odebrala většinu sacharidů a jakékoli průmyslem zpracované jídlo, mi dodalo takový přísun energie, jaký jsem rozhodně nečekala. Nezhubla jsem na kila, ale mám o 1 až 2 velikosti menší oblečení a jakýkoli sport nebo cvičení mělo dvojnásobný efekt na to, jak jsem se cítila a vypadala. Jíst nízkosacharidovou stravu NEZNAMENÁ jíst málo – mé porce jsou často dvojnásobkem toho, co jsem jedla před lety .
Takže, co vlastně jím? Grilované maso/ryby jakéhokoli druhu, spoustu vajec, plnotučné mléčné produkty (z kravského/kozího/ovčího mléka), čerstvou/grilovanou zeleninu, ořechy a tuky jakéhokoli druhu a bobule a ovoce s nízkým obsahem cukru (v malém množství). Přibrala jsem 6-7 kilo (váha před těhotenstvím byla 53 kg) a protože jsem jedla jen kvalitní potraviny, ani jedinkrát mě nenapadlo dělat si starosti s množstvím (a že to byly porce! ☺).
PLAVÁNÍ
Jsem vášnivý plavec a za posledních 5 let denně uplavu 1-2 km. Protože jsem neměla žádné problémy s nechutenstvím, bylo pro mě jednoduché pokračovat v zaběhnuté rutině po celou dobu 9 měsíců, a plavala jsem v teplotách od 15 (Atlantický oceán) až k 30 stupňům Celsia (Indický oceán).
Každé plavání mělo dvojí účinek: budování síly a vytrvalosti, a úplné uvolnění těla. Takže jsem se rozhodla, že vyzkouším svojí denní rutinu vytáhnout na 3-5 km, kdykoli to jen bude možné. Plavala jsem pomaleji, ale déle, a to pomáhalo všem těm svalovým skupinám, které trpěly, když se mé bříško začalo pomalu zvětšovat.
Taky jsem pokračovala se svými tréninky Reformer & Mat Pilates, což byla hračka, když jsem certifikovanou instruktorkou. A na portugalských vlnách jsem surfovala až do 20. týdne ☺
JÓGA
Před 3-4 roky jsem začala své pilatové tréninky doplňovat hodinami Vinyasa a Ashtanga jógy. Překvapilo mně, že pokroky na další úroveň/úrovně nebyly jen otázkou síly a pečlivosti, ale i nastavení mysli a vůle. Jakmile jsem se naučila základní sestavu – a při nepravidelném cvičení kvůli plnému pracovnímu nasazení to bylo vážně těžké (i když je to jen výmluva) – mohla jsem cvičit kdekoli a kdykoli.
Tři týdny před porodem (a to už jsem přečetla veškeré konvenční i nekonvenční články o tom, jakým pozicím se vyhnout/kdy/proč) jsem se rozhodla, že se budu držet svého selského rozumu. Proto jediná rada, kterou si troufnu vám dát je tato: „Poslouchejte své tělo – přemýšlejte o možnostech spíš než o omezeních.“ Pokračovala jsem s „obvyklými“ lekcemi jógy a prenatální lekce jsem ani nevyzkoušela. Bylo úžasné pozorovat, jak se mé tělo díky denní rutině (ať už jsem cvičila ve fitku nebo doma) přizpůsobilo svému měnícímu se tvaru, těžišti a nárůstu váhy.
Rotace – nepřestala jsem je dělat, jen jsem upravila úhel a intenzitu kvůli svému bříšku. Vzpory (pozice prkna) – bez výmluv jsem s nimi pokračovala a jednoduše zabírala víc hýžďovými svaly a nohama, abych břišním svalům vypomohla. Stoje na hlavě – překvapivě jsem se zdokonalila ve stoji na hlavě nebo ve stojce. Jedno jednoduché pravidlo jsem uplatnila: žádné vyskakování do této pozice. Každá stojka, ať už na hlavě nebo na rukou proto vyžadovala dokonalou techniku a sílu. Nadále jsem procvičovala všechny další pozice a našla si jednoduché (ale intenzívní) varianty k těm, které byly technicky neproveditelné (například ležení na břiše).
Neodrazuji vás od toho vyzkoušet si prenatální jógu – obzvláště pokud jste jógu před těhotenstvím pravidelně neprovozovali (ale zvažte to jako výbornou vychytávku!). Určitě ale „klasickou“ jógu vyzkoušejte, a pokud jste silné a zkušené, pod vedením dobrého lektora a díky sledování vlastního těla můžete zůstat silnými, pružnými, ale také sebevědomými a klidnými ženami nejen během těch často náročných 9 měsíců, ale i měsíce po porodu.“
