Not sure if Trados is actively trying to make me hate it, but today's problem is that, having finished a 20,000-word project in SDL Trados 2019 Starter Edition, I can't create a return package for it because "Create Return Package" is grayed out. Why??? Any ideas what to do? | | | DZiW (X) Ukraine English to Russian + ... What the fun? | May 26, 2019 |
Eliza, if the status is "completed", besides some 5,000 limiting and reviewing you could try Create Return Package and Create Compatible Package--unless they removed the buttons since 2015. | | | | Samuel Murray Netherlands Local time: 06:41 Member (2006) English to Afrikaans + ... Let me summarise it: 1. If all else fails, simply generate the target files (using Batch Tasks > Generate Target Translation) and send the client the target files plus the translated SDLXLIFF files. 2. You can only create return packages if the project is "In progress". If the project is "Completed", you have to change its status to "In progress". One way to do that is to open one segment, make one change to it, save it, open the segment again, and revert the change. 3. You can only generate a return package if you received the forward package in the first place. You can't create a return package if you created the project yourself, manually. 4. Paul F. wrote this blog post in 2012 about packages: https://multifarious.filkin.com/2012/12/17/working-with-packages/ 5. One member claimed that the option would be greyed out if the project files path is too long. 6. One member opened the forward package, but then opened and translated the SDLXLIFF file separately outside of the project, and therefore could not create a return package. | |

Which is a Zip file replicating the directory structure and contents of a Studio project, but with a Studio-specific suffix. If all else fails, a "return" zip file could perhaps be compiled and returned as it stood, with the client's agreement, and with an explanatory note? In any event, when returning Studio packages, I send at the same time the SDLXLIFF file and the target file to forestall any difficulties. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » "Create return package" is grayed out.
