The atrium is essentially modern in its design, but is vertically traversed by an eight-storey traditional fretwork mashrabiah screen which allows it to keep one foot anchored in the past whilst adding warmth and texture to the otherwise cool and smooth marble surfaces of this space.

أريد أن يكافأ كل من بحث عن معنى كلمة أو أورد مصدرًا أو مرجعًا، حتى تزيد روح المنافسة هنا، فأنا أرى الكثيرين من أعضاء بروز، أحجموا عن المشاركة.

مع أنَّ الترجمات للجملة متشابهة ومترادفة من حيث المظهر إلا أنك الوحيد الذي يستطيع الاختيار بينها... ليس الأمر لأنك تفضل هذا على ذاك فحسب ولكن لأنَّ طبيعة نصِّك، التي نجهلها نحن، هي تحتِّم ذاك أيضًا.ـ
فإذا كان موضوع نصِّك علميًا أكاديميا فسيختلف خيارك عن نصٍّ سياحي أو نص تاريخي، أليس كذلك ؟

ما قصدته هو، بالنسبة لي، ليس لي من مكان للانزعاج بسبب عدم اختيار ترجمتي، فليس الأمر من الأحسن بل هو اجتهاد ومن أصاب فله أجران ومن أخطأ فله أجر، والأجر عند الله أولا وأخيرًا

أمَّا غير ذلك فهو أمر ثانوي جدًّا... أرجو أن أكون قد وضَّحت فكرتي

I know exactly what you're saying, Mohamed! I face this dilemma most of the time when I post my questions. I think Porz people have to come up with a way to chose more than one answer. It's really about time! But for now go by what you chose for your translation, or what fitted your translation most. Don't worry ما حدش ح يزعل :)))

Nesrin is right. You just pick the answer you find the most appropriate. As she said, this Kudoz and the choice is yours (really, too many to chose one!!! Hahahah)

Thank you Nisreen for that, but We all know that, many questions could accommodate more than ONE answer; this is the nature of the languages. For me, I found most of the posted answers are suitable, more than acceptable and can be used in my context.

الحفاظ على أصالة الماضي

The atrium is the central area in a building; open to the sky.
I think that the "it" in (which allows it to keep one foot anchored in the past) refers to the atrium.
So the fretwork mashrabiah screen gives the atrium the sense of originality and deep-rootedness.
