"population stock" plus "crab" has 2,050 hits, not significantly different from the opposite way around. Moreover. besides appearing approximately the same number of times in either order, in Portuguese "populacionais" is the adjective, and in English the first noun modifies the second noun when placed together, meaning that by logic, assuming it is not a set phrase the opposite way, which in this case it is not, "population" would have the role of the adjective.
