Spanish term

quiches

Spanish to English Science Botany
"En el grupo de las epífitas vasculares, se tomaron registros fotográficos, de los diferentes ejemplares, pues estos registros se constituyeron en la principal herramienta de trabajo para la determinación de este grupo, dentro del cual se encuentran las orquídeas,*** quiches***, aráceas, gesneriáceas etc. "

This is obviously some type of plant group, but my searching has only turned up results on French cuisine! :p

Discussion

@Barbara Hello, you're absolutely right. These groupings do not represent a particular species, but families.
Barbara L Pavlik (asker) May 13, 2013:
In response to your comment, Phil, I think from the way it's listed with other groupings, that it's a group of species (i'd have to go back and check whether these are families or genera, but definitely not a particular species).

bromeliads

As Phil says in the reference section, with the bare term you'd never know whether it refers to all bromeliads or to specific species. However, since orchids, aroids and Gesneriaceae are all families, I think it's safe to assume that "quiches" also refers to the entire bromeliad family, in this case.

agree philgoddard : I'm still not clear whether it means all bromeliads, or specific species.
