non credo che "close" in questo caso stia per "sigillato" perché sennò altrimenti dovrebbe essere "the ceiling is closed and hermetically sealed". In ogni caso, anche se close to sia letteralmente inteso come "vicino a" non mi suona molto bene in questo contesto. Un'idea per renderlo più carino stilisticamente?

: sigillato quasi ermeticamente, e non girerei la frase: si rischia di dare altro significato. Potrebbe sembrare che lo stato più desiderabile sia un sigillo pefettamente stagno, che non è affatto il caso qui.

non è perfettamente/ermeticamente chiuso
avrei girato un po' la frase; e invece di dire che è quasi sigillato ermeticamente, direi che non è perfettamente chiuso e quindi lasci passare dell'aria dall'esterno
