English term

to shoulder this burden alone,

English to Spanish Science Other
I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from American English into Latin American Spanish. It's a translation for a conference about water contamination. Is okay to translate it as no debemos permitir que Newburgh cargue este peso por si solo?

Here is the full paragraph for your review:

Water is a basic right for all Americans regardless of where they live, how much money they have in their bank account, or the color of their skin,” said Maloney. “We can’t allow Newburgh to shoulder this burden alone, and our leaders in the DoD – including Secretary of Defense Carter – must take the necessary steps to get to the bottom of this issue
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): M. C. Filgueira, Maria Mastruzzo

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Hi, your last questions are interesting, but the text is not Chemistry-specific (name of compounds or chemical processes/scientific terms?). You should change it to "general", "law" or another category in order to have more answers.

No (dejemos) que Newburgh cargue sola con el peso/No debemos dejarla sola/debemos ayudar...

This is what you are looking for. "cargue este peso por si solo" sounds more "stiff". Besides, Newburgh is a city I guess. "ciudad" is feminine in Spanish.

"No debemos darle la espalda..." is another option, but this is a more free version...
