German term
Strohstabilität
German to English
Science
Agriculture
Barley
I have little context:
In der Züchtung geht es vorrangig um Kornertrag, Strohstabilität und Vermarktungsqualität.
However, I have found one explanation of the term:
geringe Neigung zu Halm- und Ährenknicken (Strohstabilität)
Could it be something like "resistance to brackling and necking". Or "good straw characteristics, resistance to brackling and necking"?
Thank you for your help!

U of Pennsylvania also mentions straw strength, strong straw etc https://books.google.com/books?id=W-1IAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA206&lpg=...
And **stiffer straw** is also mentioned in Steffans citation United Kingdom, so my answer is not actually anything new, just different.

Steffen Walter
: You wouldn't really say "strong straw strength", would you? "High straw strength" appears to be more appropriate to avoid the repetition/duplicate.

sturdy straw
... is what I also found during my search, such as in https://academic.oup.com/jxb/article/66/12/3499/522041 ("Barley of the uzu-type is highly resistant to lodging due to a short and sturdy straw accompanied by an upright plant architecture with low leaf angles (Fig. 3A) (Chono et al., 2003).")

: I would be inclined to refer to "robust straw", but "sturdy" is fine.

standing power
Further agronomic advances have been achieved with selection for improved standing power...
https://books.google.de/books?id=sg-kAgAAQBAJ&pg=PA17&lpg=PA...
Standing power is calculated using both lodging and leaning data and expressed on a 1 to 9 scale, where a high figure indicates good standing power.
https://www.afbini.gov.uk/articles/cereals-background-charac...
Lodging in cereals is often a result of the combined effects of inadequate standing power of the crop,

Note from asker:
Thank you, but I went for straw stiffness. There is also the term Standfestigkeit and I think standing power fits that, so thank you! My research also revealed: Ährenknicken = necking; Halmknicken = bracking |

straw integrity or quality
Just a general term should suffice, given the simple context provided.
