Estoy revisando la traducción del manual de un procesador de muestras de microbiología. Me aparece mucho el término "spot" como verbo y no tengo claro a qué se refiere. Lo han traducido como "detectar", pero creo que sería más bien "depositar", o algo así.
Un ejemplo:
"For ID purpose, X is a microbiology specimen processor that automatically picks colonies selected by the laboratory technologists, spots MALDI-TOF targets and applies the appropriate matrix."
Lo han traducido como "Para la identificación, X™ es un procesador de muestras de microbiología que recoge automáticamente las colonias seleccionadas por los tecnólogos del laboratorio, detecta los objetivos MALDI-TOF y aplica la matriz adecuada."
Otro ejemplo: "las colonias seleccionadas se detectan entonces en un objetivo para la identificación MALDI."

Ubicar implica tb movimiento, así que puede valer.
No soy especialista y no me decido a profundizar, menos sin más detalles.
En cualquier caso, ¿por qué lo interpretas como depositar?
