Spanish term

según

Spanish to English Science Science (general) animals, experiments
El peso comienza a diferenciarse, según tratamiento, a partir de la segunda semana y se mantienen las diferencias hasta el final de la experiencia

So the animals are given different types of treatment and their progress monitored. What would people say here. I'm just not convinced by the usual according to and depending on here. Or maybe I'm being picky.
Thanks
xx

This is a more "scientific" way of putting it.

Actually, I should have said \"the scientific way\" of putting it.

Some people seem to have misunderstood the meaning of \"as a function of\". It does not simply mean \"as a result of\".

\"Depending on treatment\" can be understood as meaning \"depending on whether treatment is given or not. The same goes for \"according to\".

\"As a functon of treatment\" means \"as a result of the different types of treatment given\".

\"x\" happens depending on \"y\" = \"x\" happens depending on whether \"y\" is present or absent

\"x\" happens as a function of \"y\" = variation in \"y\" correlates with variation in \"x\"

This is a critical distinction in science. The term \"is a function of\" needs to be known by anyone translating scientific material.

neutral Judy Rojas : The adjusted odds ratio compared with controls of aortic regurgitation of mild or greater severity increased according to duration of treatment: 90 to 180 days, 1.5 (P=0.23); 181 to 360 days, 2.4 (P=0.002); 361 to 720 days, 4.6 (P<0.001); >720 days, 6.2

The meaning of "according to" is made unambiguous here by the earlier part of the sentence. And the author could have written "as a function of duration of treatment".
neutral n/a (X) : You are considering treatment here as a single continuous variable, which would make 'as a function of' correct. But in the case of multiple (discrete) treatments, 'according to' is accurate.

Yes, that's how I was considering it. Thanks for clearing up the difference in usage.
