Yes, it's only in Latin letters, and might be an old French transliteration of the Arabic word. I've actually posted in the French forum but they sent me over here!

It's hard to tell from the text- we've been arguing about it in the French forum- the kaik could be covering the entire horse or might just be on the saddle. the discussion, which is in English, is at: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/912040?float=1

Any possibility it could be a weird spelling of haik (the Moroccan garment)?

Do you have the word in Latin letters only, or in Arabic? If in Arabic, could you transcribe it in those, please? Also, does the text specify which part of the horse's body is covered by this "kaik"? Thanks
