Arabic term

مذهب من مذاهب لبنان في سنة 1911 و 1917 اسمه "إسرائيل"؟

Arabic to English Other Other
Appears on a Lebanese birth certificate. Could I translate as: Israeli or Israel? The entry is hand-written but it appears to give: إسرائيل as religious denomination of father. Could that be true?
Thanks

Jew

Referring to website included in the answer "Jacobite Christian"; the author didn't mention الطائفة اٌلإسرائيلية as a sect of Christianity but rather as a religiuos community and even a Jacobite Christian would be مسيحيي يعقوبي أي شخص ينتمي إلى اليعاقبة . In Egypt, الطائفة الإسرائلية was a general official lable for the Jewish community at the time.
