It's a term used in Russia's Northern Caucasus to denote religious divisions among Moslems, perhaps like sects, or teachings, or schools of thought.
The origin of the word is probably Arabic. I'd like to know what the root is, what it means, and whether it's wird, or vird, or something else.

الورد بكسر الراء يعتبر ميزة للمتصوفة ، ومن خلال هذا الورد يمكن التمييز بين الطريقة القادرية أو السقطية أو لجنيدية أو الشاذلية أو الخزنوية أو الرفاعية أو الأحمدية أو النقشبندية أو التيجانية أو غيرها من الطرق. ويعين كل إمام طريقة ورداً لمريديه يميزهم إلى حد ما عن غيرهم ، وهذا الورد هو أذكار وتسابيح وأدعية بأعداد معينة قد تصل إلى 100 أو 1000 أو أكثر في اليوم الواحد ، وتشمل هذه الأذكار تسابيح لله والصلاة على الرسول محمد.
The Wird distinguishes one Sufi approach from the other, such Al Qaderiah, Saqatia, Junaidyah, Shathelyah, Alkhazwayah, Alrefaeyah, Alahmadia, Nakishbandyah, or Altejanyah …etc
Each Imam of Sufi approach designated to his followers some Zeker (supplications and prayers) to be said daily as the Wird, which usually consists of 100, 1000 times, or more praises to Allah and blessings on the Prophet Muhammad. When a person becomes a follower to one of the forgoing approaches, he has to say such Wird every day.

وفرق من يشرب من الورد ومن ينتظر جريرة الماء
ونقول عن الذي يصل إلى البثر للشرب بالوارد والمرأة ورادة ونقول أخذ القطيع إلى الماء ليرد وهذه الكلمات شائعة في دير الزور السورية لأن جل" سكانها يتحدثون الفصحى على السليقة

The wird is another central principle of the Sufi orders, which literally means a set portion of the Qur'an, or any other specific act of worship, which the worshipper commits himself to recite or perform, either at a particular time or occasion or on a regular basis. But according to Sufism, the wird, or dthikr, is a practice of repeating the name of Allah, and a set of invocations assigned to the murid by his shaikh or deputy as a liturgy of communion. They involve beseeching the dead, and seeking help from sources other than Allah.
