Le terme “para-professional interpreter” (interprète para-professionnel) est utilisé en Australie, aux États-Unis et dans d’autres pays pour qualifier une catégorie de linguistes
professionnels. Il désigne un linguiste professionnel qui n’a reçu aucune formation formelle mais qui jouit néanmoins d’une expérience considérable dans le contexte de l’interprétation
de liaison et de l’interprétation communautaire. On peut faire appel à des interprètes paraprofessionnels dans le contexte de l’interprétation concernant des langues ou des dialectes
non courants.
