Rashmi Sahare (asker) Oct 24, 2006:
please note taluka/tahseel/prakhanda are three different words.
Rashmi Sahare (asker) Oct 24, 2006:
I can not take more than one word to translate 'taluka' in English. There is no space! This word is in a certificate. taluka/tahseel/prakhand

I have asked about tahseel in a different post.

taluka/tehsil

Actually taluka and tehsil are often used interchangeably and they mean the same thing - an administrative unit headed by a talukadar or tehsildar.

This answers.com article explains the meaning better:

This being a specific Indian subcontinental term, it should be left as it is.
