Переселенческий пункт

Russian to English Social Sciences Archaeology
Taken from an archaological text looking at Paleolithic findings in the former USSR region. The full paragraph containing the phrase in question is as follows:

В Сибири С. М.

Migration point? Or does the presence of the captial П mean it should be transliterated?

Progress report I'm still no closer to resolving this one. I've just discovered that my client actually has had this text translated into French, so I've requested the French version to help me with all the place names and people's names. But, wouldn't you believe it, they've just gone on holiday for two weeks and so I have to wait until they return before I can get the French text. Humph.

I have found a place called Pereselencheskiy in Chelyabinskaya oblast' but that's not what I'm after.

Anyway, I'll keep at it and hope that the French translator found something!

It may be capitalized to denote a specific one similar to the archaeological Arabic "tell" (hill, mound) or equivalent Persian tepe which are capitalized when specific, e.g., Tell Harmal, Tepe Gawra

I agree with Simon. I bet it's a place name. Get thee to an English-language gazetteer or atlas to see if you can find a standard name.

Написание с заглавной буквы вызывает сомнение: может это просто геогафическое название поселка, откуда рассылались в Сибири арестанты или

Thank you
disagree Alexander Demyanov : Karen, переселенческий пункт is not any sort of settlement/поселение, it's more like camp/barracks, run by authorities

Migrant Center

I guess the MC has to do with the reform by Stolypin which among other things was to send migrants from central Russia to develop Siberia and this is how the MC came in life. I do not think it can be transliterated as there should have been many more MC-s. And nor i am sure it was a settlement, but rather a point from where migrants were directed further on.
Peer comment(s):

agree Alexander Demyanov : a search for '"migrant center" siberia' seems to support your suggestion
