Russian term
условная линия
Russian to English
Law/Patents
Journalism
news article on international crime
Мы начинаем серию публикаций на тему того, как ХХХ и его окружение борются с БББ. Она будет состоять из трех условных линий. Почему условных? Потому есть объективная проблема с классификацией документов, которыми мы располагаем и с которыми ознакомим наших, читателей.
So, this has nothing to do with surveying or boundary lines or the odd phrase "datum line." It's some sort of metaphorical image for three tracks of investigation or journalism on this particular subject.
Thanks in advance.

Я нашла статью, которую Вы переводите (http://www.respublika-kz.info/news/politics/43326/). Думаю, в данном случае "условная" лучше всего перевести как "provisional". Что касается "линии", из дальнейшего контекста следует, что под "линией" подразумевается "направление" или "тематика" публикаций. Поэтому логично перевести как "theme", "topic", "subject", или что-то в этом роде.

presumable avenues of inquiry
"Avenue of inquiry" seems to be quite often used as "линия расследования". But in general "avenue" can be given a broader context, for example, "avenues for assisting" like here http://enculturation.net/files/availablemeans/avenues.html
So I guess this would be a possible translation.

hypothetical line
"three hypothetical lines of enquiry"
for условный I try to get 'hypothetical' or 'theoretical' to fit, they sometimes do
Can also try in the following sentence: "let's say three lines of enquiry", but then if you list them you can only call them 'lines 1, 2 and 3', whereas with 'hypothetical' you can call them 'hypothetical lines 1, 2 and 3', which sounds better to me

tentatively
For the sake of clarity (investigation), this series of publications can be tentatively divided into three units (categories).
Вполне очевидно, что ни о каких линиях расследования речи в тексте нет, да и статья дурно структурирована, а пресловутые линии и вовсе отсутстуют. Кажется, автор хотел выразиться «покрасивше», а «линии» с трудом могут выступать как «рассказ» или «то, что готовит XXX на случай...»
