Context - a book on South Russian dialects.
This has been translated as 'Russian Rural Dialects'. I'm not sure about 'rural' however. Is 'rural' necessarily implied here? I would have thought 'narodnye' had a wider meaning.

Another variant. Folk is fine, too.

varieties of Russian pronunciation
Back at Uni I thoroughly studied the varities of English pronunciation. «Govor» is a variety of •pronunciation• and NOT a dialect which is much broader, despite the fact that most RU-EN-RU dictionaries treat these two as complete synonyms.

Russian subdialects
Говор уже, чем диалект, диалект - это совокупность однородных говоров. Поэтому для "говора" я бы использовал термин subdialect.

Кстати, rural dialect - это т.н. "крестьянский говор", т.е. местный диалект, употребляемый преимущественно земледельцами, которые в ряде стран выступают как представители наиболее замкнутой ("отсталой") социальной группы. Для Вашего контекста этот термин явно не подходит.

: Absolutely w/ subdialects, that's what a "говор" is, but doesn't "русский народный" imply "rural"? IMHO, it does.

Russian local speech patterns
Despite the number of august colleagues advocating for "dialect," I would suggest something more like "speech pattener."
To me, a dialect can include both different vocabulary and different ways of saying the same words, different speech patterns. "Speech pattern" and dialect areclose tooverlapping, but not completely.
Research to support this point? Oh, that is left to the Asker

In the US, speech patterns are often identified as regional accents, but accents / speech patterns can be quite different even acros fairly compact geographical distances.
