Bio
Personal presentation

I worked as a biologist for a short period after getting my degree at the Faculty of Sciences in the State University. I then turned to my main interests: language and writing, and the human affairs served by and related to all that, the diverse creative expressions of culture and its interconnections.
I started translating for fun, from books and music, when I wanted to share things with people that would not get there otherwise. Or for a translation I liked better than the ones I had met, especially regarding poetry and literature and, later, to provide or fix the subtitling for beloved films, as I am devoted to cinema too. I have worked at the Uruguayan Cinematheque in the 1990’s.
I moved to Spain for five years and enrolled in the Master in Translation at the Complutense University of Madrid. Living in Europe was a thoroughly enriching experience that among other things enabled me to work in the Netherlands in the summer festivals of Rotterdam and The Hague. I was also the band manager of a Uruguayan instrumental trio of violin and guitars, Ojos de Cielo, during their first Spanish tour in 2002, which included their participation in the San Sebastian Horror & Fantasy Film Festival, as the band playing live at Fritz Lang’s 1921 silent film Der müde Tod.
I am also a writer, and had short stories and poetry published in Buenos Aires, in the Letras de Oro collection of 2007 and I have performed at several literary events in Montevideo, as Caramelos y Pimientos, promoted by Isabel de la Fuente.
Back in Uruguay and with my science background I specialized in environmental translations, and was able to successfully achieve some big translation projects for UNDP, UNESCO-IHP, Global Water Partnership and several international translation companies. For instance, I have contributed to the Uruguayan National Protected Area System (SNAP) projects (translating from and to English), that brought together my education in science, concern for nature, communication and writing within my work. And at the same time I worked as a translator, I have also worked as an English teacher too at the Instituto Cultural Anglo, collaborated with art and science articles for La Diaria newspaper, and worked as a vaccine medical sales representative for Sanofi Pasteur.
I have, as a result of all of this, and from a fine English knowledge due to my interest in culture, human affairs, constant reading, travels and experiences, and from 12 years of bilingual school (that included English and general history, discipline which I am very fond of too), flexibility and fluency, and the ability to successfully cope with different tasks in various areas. Along these years working in translation, I have proved myself reliable, accurate, adaptable and perfectly able to plunge into serious large projects and their sometimes killer deadlines, as I have done in my several works for big international agencies as UNDP or UNESCO, and always come out on time with the project in my hands, in its best health and timing. Please feel free to contact any of my referees or check the feedback from my clients at my ProZ profile to confirm this.
