Thanks. I tried Apostrophe when I was messing around with LaTeX. I'm not qualified to comment much on the program, but it seemed pretty cool.

How do you mean "not qualified"? We're qualified enough as users to comment some software.

I have no problems admitting that I don't know everything. Instead of making an ill-informed comment on a subject, I'd rather stay quiet.

Anyway, Kdenlive—one of the most notable non-linear video editor on Linux—is introducing a background-removal feature. This is still in alpha, so it'll take a while before the feature lands on the final build. But still, good times ahead!

I also have no problems admitting that I don't know everything. And my comments for some software are based on my experience as a user.
So, when we talk about Linux, I'm just a beginner, I mean you can see that in this topic, me asking you for tutorials about how to install Linux.
Anyway, this is just a forum on a translation platform, it isn't Linux developers forum or something like that.

Which is why I marked this thread as off-topic.

Dota Jan 2

I installed it the other day when I was going to play Dota 2, but my GPU's both on my laptop and my desktop are shit.
And when I uninstalled it, I've noticed that were 60 GB leftovers from Steam on my laptop. I deleted them via disk analyzer on my Linux Mint.
So the unistall function doesn't uninstalled everything.

And probably you are remembering when Dota 1 was on Garena. That were good times.
I guess now I have to satisfied with mame32

Ah, Jean. A fellow Linuxer translator. Haven't seen him around here in a while. I hope he's doing all right.

Miller has done so much for the Fedora Project. We can't thank him enough. His successor would have to pass a high bar he's set.

I recently came across this TTS/STT software called Speech Note: https://github.com/mkiol/dsnote

I have long wanted an alternative to Dragon Naturally Speaking that would work natively on Linux, be easy to install and set up, allow transcription into any program/window and not rely on remote servers like Google’s. I had pretty much given up on that dream, but this does all that as well as text-to-speech and live machine translation. It lacks some of the training and customization features of DNS, but some of the models are already shockingly good out of the box and it is in active development.

You can set up rules to fix common errors related to e.g. punctuation or if the model has trouble recognizing the way you pronounce certain words. For example, last night I was translating software with %1-style placeholders and the model I’m using wasn’t familiar with the combination "percent one" so it kept trying to correct it to other things like "percentile". I just added a rule that automatically changes "1%" to "%1" and now I can say "one percent" and it understands me every time.

I still need to familiarize myself with it and tweak it to my liking, but this could be a game changer for those of us with repetitive strain injury and chronic pain.

@Bruno Jan 13

Thank you for recommending Speech Note, Bruno. This seems to be a great alternative to Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It could be really useful for translators who prefer or need to dictate their translations. 👍
