Reverse language direction in Transit NXT reference material Thread poster: LilianChan

Hi everybody,
I'm a greenie of Transit NXT. I have created an alignment project with English as the source text and Chinese as the target one. Now, I would like to use the alignment project as a reference material to a new project. Is it possible to use the aligned project with the language direction reversed?
It would be very much appreciated if anyone could share your experience of how to do this.

Hi LilianChan,
This is how you can do it in Transit XV. The same should be working in NXT:
1- choose the aligned files as your reference
2- under "Pretranslation 1", uncheck the option "Min. Segment status".
This means Transit should use the segments from the aligned files, although they are not marked as aligned.

export to tmx
reverse the direction in tmx (say. using Olifant freeware)
import from tmx back to Transit

I am not quite sure if Transit NXT can automatically reverse the language direction of an aligned reference material/language pair files according to the language direction set in a new project or not. If not, is there any workaround to reverse the language direction of an aligned reference material/language pair files without exporting and importing them as TMX?

Hi Lilian,
Try this, it should work:
1- Create a new project with the same new direction you want to have at the end (say Chinese>English)
2- From inside this project choose Open Language Pair | Browse
3- Select the aligned language pair to be opened from this window
4- Use the option "File STATUS" => Aligned or Translated
5- File | Save
Then you should have the status of the English segments set to the status you've chose in step 4... See more Hi Lilian,

In short Transit does not know whether the Chinese or the English was the source or target in the reference material. By extension, you can use the content of a multilingual project to create TMs between two 'third party' languages, if you wish.
There is no need to use external products.

I have tried the steps as suggested by ATT, and when I got to step 3, I had some doubt about it. I tried to open the language pair (xxx.ENG and xxx.CHT) separately, hoping to have each of them displayed in a separate tab but failed. It ended up that xxx.ENG or xxx.CHT was called up but not both at the same time. Then I called up xxx.CHT and assigned status for the English segments as translated. However, I couldn’t find ‘File... * There is one more doubt about how Transit NXT handles the language pair. If I finish the translation in a new project (e.g. English>Chinese), and I want to open all its TUs for editing/merging/deleting/adding segments instead of the filtered TUs, where should I do it?
