Deed oznacza czynność prawną w formie pisemnej o najwyższym stopniu sformalizowania dostępnym w systemach common law. W tym sensie, w hierarchii czynności prawnych, jest odpowiednikiem polskiego aktu notarialnego. Deed aktem notarialnym jednak nie jest ponieważ sporządzany jest bez udziału notariusza. Rolę notariusza po części przejmuje sąd, który deed rejestruje, zatrzymuje oryginał oraz wydaje odpisy.
