A heavy sediment consisting of dead yeast cells and other solid matter such as grape pulp, pips and so on. Keeping the wine on the lees, especially if they are stirred from time to time, may be beneficial to the wine, imparting extra flavour and body. Eventually, however, they must be removed. This may be achieved by racking the wine off the lees. Residual solid matter may be removed by filtration.

رسوبات و لایی که در ته بشکه/خم/شیشه شراب/سرکه یا هر محلول در حال تخمیر دیگری انبوه شده و با گذشت زمان گاه سخت میگردند در اصطلاح درد، لرد یا لرت نامیده میشوند، ولی در متون ادبی پارسی مانند اشعار حافظ از آنها با نام درد یا درده و دردی یاد میشود و اینگونه می‌نماید که همان واژه درد برای ترجمه‌ی متونی از این دست کارآمدترین باشد.<br /><br />معنی: هر کدورت که در چیزی رقیق ته نشین شود. (از غیاث ). آنچه ته نشنید از روغن و هر چیزرقیق و مایع و سایل . ناب از صفات اوست . و با لفظ خوردن و مکیدن مستعمل است .
