Spanish term

EER

Spanish to English Other Education / Pedagogy
In a Mexiian high school (bachillerato) transcript next to the column for "califiación" there is a column headed "Tipo de evaluación"). Next to a very few of the grades (in the "calificación" column) there is in this "tipo de evaluación column the acronym EER followed by the date. My guess is that it may stand for something like "examinaciones regulares" but I am baffled by the fact that it only occurs next to a few grades, and not at the head of those for each semester, for instance.

Discussion

Thomas Ochiltree (asker) Aug 21, 2009:
Reply to objection to "make-up exam"j In the U.S. the term "make up exam" is perfectly common. I took one myself when I gt confused about the exam schedule and showed up in the afternoon rather than the morning. Granted that such an exam is usually given for students who can't take the exam because of illness, etc., rather than as a second chance for a failed exam, but I think it can apply to the situation at hand. Regards, Tom

Check the internet If the comment "should have checked here first" is directed at me. please bear in mind that until I received Carlos's answer I did not have the full term, only the acronym "EER" and a google search turned up large numbers of non-education related version, and a ProZ term search turned up just one education-related answer, which clearly did not apply.

Check the Internet If you search examen extraordinario de regularización, you'll get plenty of hits. I am not sure what it is called in English... I believe it is different from a make-up test. Good luck!
Thomas Ochiltree (asker) Aug 20, 2009:
Question for Lydia Should I take your very helpful contribution as supporting the proposed "make up exam", i.e. is an "examen extraordinario de regularizacióon" an exam to make for one not taken on schedule (or failed) or does it mean something else? Thanks, Tom
Thomas Ochiltree (asker) Aug 20, 2009:
A bit more info. If it helps The dates are 01-08, 05-09. 06-09 and 05-09. There are the only four cases of "EER" out of 32 courses spread over the four semesters corresponding to the academic years 1007-2008 and 2008-2009.

Is there such a thing? I'm not sure if there is such a thing. Maybe "summer school"?

Can a senior take a make-up final exam to improve a grade?

Seniors, with the permission of their instructor, may take make-up exams for any two examination courses in their senior year in which they received a D or an F.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks. I believe this answer conveys the meaning without unecessarily offending the client (i.e. by indicating that the make-up exam is making up for a failed course). As for the term "resit exam" in the link to "Examenes xtraordinarios", I would caution that that is fine for UK English but not US English. In the US one "takes" an exam, NEVER "sits" it. Thanks to all answerers."
