Discussion

Gwenydd Jones (asker) Mar 3, 2010:
Yes, don't worry, the same thing happens to me sometimes. Thanks anyway!
Cecilia Rey Mar 3, 2010:
Hi everybody, I really hadn't read your discussions before I posted my answer, which is based just in the context given and knowledge of Spanish. I also don't worry about the points.
Kevin G Mar 3, 2010:
Don't worry about the points. Cecily has already posted the same answer, I'm not sure if she read our discussions beforehand or not.
Gwenydd Jones (asker) Mar 2, 2010:
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this, I really appreciate it, and now I understand! :)

I won't be able to give you any points though unless you publish an answer...
Kevin G Mar 2, 2010:
Sorry, Proz doesn't like XML tags! The XML file structure would be (replacing ( by > and ) by <):

(actualidad)
(hijo_de_actualidad)contenidos(/hijo_de_actualidad)
(/actualidad)
Kevin G Mar 2, 2010:
Yes Gwen, that is exactly what I was trying to explain!
With the additional info, I think it makes it a bit clearer. The nodes would be the nodes within the XML file based on the XML schema definition. The defintion, as described in the text, would mean that the XML file would have a structure like:

<actualidad>
<hijo_de_actualidad>contenidos</hijo_de_actualidad>
</actualidad>

Not sure if they have sent you an example XML file to be 100% sure?
Gwenydd Jones (asker) Mar 2, 2010:
Ah, Kevin, I see what you mean. That is a possibility. So "fichero de actualidad" becomes "news file", which would mean that XML de actualidad becomes "news XML", then I have "news node" and so on... Here is a little more context:
"Tras la descarga del XML de actualidad, el player lo abrirá e interpretará, descargando todos los ficheros que estén referenciados en el nodo <ficheros>...El nodo actualidad y su hijo <ficheros> son los dos únicos nodos obligatorios del XML de actualidad"
Kevin G Mar 2, 2010:
In case I wasn't clear, my suggestion is that the name of the file relates to the contents of the file / server / XML file etc.. i.e. "News". Semantic naming on the web is quite popular at the moment!
If you can confirm that it is related specifically to the updating of the file, I would probably use "current file".
Gwenydd Jones (asker) Mar 2, 2010:
I'm pretty sure its a file update that's being referred to, then later XML updates and node updates. The choice of phrasing just seems strange to me. It's from a very technical piece explaining how to install and customize software.
Kevin G Mar 2, 2010:
Just a thought... Given that the file is used for reporting news, could it be referring to a "News file", "News server" etc.?
Kevin Melody Mar 2, 2010:
Hi Gwen. The context seem to indicate a noun to me. Thus, "update" file would be my recommendation.
margaret caulfield Mar 2, 2010:
Hi Gwen. Yes, I would most definitely use the adjective "updated" file considering the subject matter. I don't tend to look at whether a noun or whatever is used. I just try to "interpret" what is being said and to make it as real and natural as possible in the target language.
Gwenydd Jones (asker) Mar 2, 2010:
Just to add a bit more information, I have also found "fichero actualidad" and "actualidad XML"... As Margaret has suggested, it seems like it should say "actualizado".

This is how I see it, especially considering that it's about metereological information.
Note from asker:
Hi margaret. Do you think it's acceptable to translate this with an adjective? I also have "nodo de actualidad" and "servidor de actualidad". "Updated ..." could fit, but the text seems to be treating these terms as compound nouns rather than nouns modified by adjectives. Is "update file" an accepted term?
