Then it's not a peer relationship, there's about 20 years between them. They did know each other, and Neruda praised his Cien años de soledad. García Márquez in turn praised him as the greatest poet of the period. Mutual admiration society, if you ask me... :)

They probably did know each other (García Márquez and Neruda), but all he says is: Eleven years ago, the Chilean Pablo Neruda, one of the outstanding poets of our time, enlightened this audience with his word. So, it probably shouldn't be this neutral. Thanks for weighing in! |
