dumped in the countryside
My reading is a lot less scientific than Richard's, but I see it as commenting on the effects that the material can have on nature rather than the effects nature has on the material! And I think it may well be no more than this: if the product were to be disposed of properly then it wouldn't have a negative effect on the environment.
But, as a non-engineer, I'm covering my back by giving only a Low confidence. ;-)

: dumped, that is the meaning, not disposed of because that implies a planning of where to put the rubbish, which is not what the text in English is telling us

disposed of in the natural environment
"use of this non-biodegradable material will have a permanent impact when disposed of in the natural environment".
Not quite same order as Spanish but think it gets idea over and not to repeat "environment".

Spanish term (edited):
(al ser) arrojar a la naturaleza
(when) disposed of as waste
The "a la naturaleza" is redundant in English, in my view.
Example sentence:
...affects the environment when disposed of as waste.
