Arabic term

نرجس

Arabic to English Other eye color
Lately, I have been translating quite a few Iraqi ID cards. The reverse side bears some items about physical attributes. In all of these cards, without exception, Eye color is described as نرجس. At first, I could not even figure out the Arabic word because of the sloppy handwriting (as bad as my typing), but once I was able to discern the letters, I was baffled on two counts:

- What eye color could be described as نرجس? It couldn't be the color of the flower, could it?

- How could the entire population have this eye color, whatever it might be?

I must be missing something here. Could someone please enlighten me? It looks like I will still be handling quite a few more of these ID cards.

Light Brown

The problem is caused, not by the color of the eyes, but by negligent and ignorant civil servants who are too lazy to check the exact color of the eyes.
