This abbreviation/acronym appears in a bid tender document. The context is the following:

El contratista debera mantener y conservar la información, documentación y bienes cuya propiedad corresponda a la Administración. .... Tanto el registro como el inventario y los elementos que en ellos figuren estarán siempre a disposición del R.A.C. y/o Director Tecnico.

I am assuming it refers to the Administracion but any translations I have found don't seem to fit here. Any ideas appreciated. For translation to British English.

The document is from Spain Sorry I should have put this up originally. I am assuming that the RAC is a body of some kind (to do with the Administración, possibly accounts, the military...???)

what country is it from? and what sort of company is it? This information might help. Also, do you know what sort of register is being referred to? @Billh. I think it's unlikely to refer to the Law on auditing accounts. You wouldn't stipulate that a register, an inventory and items contained within it should be made available to a Law would you?

Context is everything!

I found the following on the website of the Ministerio de Defensa. It seems that they call their QA representatives RACs.

Some companies use "Quality Assurance" and others use "Quality Control" but I don't think that the Spanish Ministry of Defence already has a translation for this role in English, although I suspect that "aseguramiento de calidad" is translated from "quality assurance".

If I were you I would leave it as it is. There are many organs/entities/companies with that name in Spanish, and with no further specification you cannot guess which it refers to...

Jane, could you give us any information regarding which kind of company it refers to?

Hi - this is in a terms and conditions for a procurement process for the Spanish MOD in the clause dealing with industrial and intellectual property of the articles that will be the produced for the contract. It says that the contractor (ie the person making the goods) must keep information and an inventory at all tlimes which must availabe to the Technical director and the R.A.C. I can't really give more information for reasons of privacy. Sorry.

Podría ser esto. Aporto una referencia del inisterio de Defensa español:

Ofrezco las siglas inglesas QAR, pero convendría también considerar la posibilidad de seguir indicando las siglas españolas en la traducción.

Jane, just a closing comment: this term needs to be in your sentence in singular; after all it says "... a disposición del R.A.C.", not "... de los R.A.C."
