Hartfield in East Sussex was the home of A A Milne in the 1920's and his son Christopher Robin. The stories of Winnie the Pooh and his friends were based in the Ashdown Forest. The sites include the Enchanted place, 100 Aker Wood and Roo's Sandpit. These are served by public car parks on the Ashdown Forest. The little wooden bridge from which the game of Pooh sticks was played is along a country path, which in places is rough and rather steep. A small car park by the footpath offers limited parking. The bridge is approx 15 minutes from here. Use of the Forest car park is recommended as this offers easy access to all the sites, although Wellington boots are advised in wet weather. Maps of the area and walk guides are available from the Ashdown Forest Centre at Wych Cross and Pooh Shop in Hartfield Village. Valuables should not be left in parked cars as thefts have been reported from time to time.
