raise the vessel on chocks

Usually, boats are lifted with the crane and the keel placed on chocks to raise to from the ground so work can be done on her bottom. It is prevented from toppling over (whn the crane is removed) by hull shores or simply shores.
Example sentence:

The starboard shore's got 'er, said he, grinning as he knocked away the last port shore... Aaaargh!

sit the vessel on blocks

An expression used on dry-docks (where I work) is to sit the boat on blocks, after the boat has been hauled and taken out of the water for repairs
