Spanish term

me dieron el alta del botellón

Spanish to English Marketing Marketing Customer satisfaction survey for gas supplier
Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing fine today.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this term, I seem to be struggling.

It is from a customer satisfaction survey for a gas supplier.

The question asked was:

"What is the main area where {business} needs to improve to make you more likely to recommend {business}?"

The full answer given was:

"Hoy mismo he recibido 3 facturas seguidas de mantenimineto que es inexistente de 10€. Les deveria caer la cara de verguenza instalarme un extintor caducado el dia que me dieron el alta del botellón. Si pago mantenimiento porque no venís y lo canviais??? me dá la sensacion que es un robo y vuestro mantenimiento... Con la seguridad no se juega!"

This answer was provided by a private customer rather than a business. I saw the meaning in a medical context of "discharge" so does it mean "took me off bottled gas" or something like that?

This is from Spain to be translated into UK English.

Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Kerryann

I registered as a client (for gas canisters)

Darse de alta also means to register as a client, or sign up. Here botellón refers to the gas canister, also called bombonas o butano. He is complaining about the service as the day he signed up he was given an empty fire extinguisher. Well that's how I see it anyway.

I think canister, cylinder or bottle could be used.

Thanks, Robert. Yes he or she. I don't know why I presumed it was a man.
agree neilmac : Yes, in Spain you're supposed to have an official contract (alta) from a registered butane gas supplier...
