Spanish term

con su dedicación

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Evaluation of a doctoral programme
This is from a list of aspects of a doctoral programme that teaching staff are asked to evaluate:

Reconocimiento académico que realiza la Universidad con su dedicación al programa de doctorado (exenciones docentes).

This is ambiguous to me - is it the respondent's commitment to the doctoral programme? Or the University's commitment? Am I being dense? Or do I need to get it clarified by the client?

How do others read it please?
Thanks

"Academic review/examination/inspection carried out by the university through its dedication to the doctorate program(me) (teaching exemptions)." - it doesn't mean anything, but I definitely think the university is the subject of "realiza" as opposed to the object.

@Chema Yep, it's definitely ambiguous. Now I'm "swithering".... :)
Chema Nieto Castañón Apr 17, 2020:
Actually I do interpret this as an "academic acknowldgement" of the University to the staff (proffesors) and an example of commitment to the program (i.e. allowing teaching exceptions, so as to allow time for teachers to dedicate to the doctorate program rather than to regular (university) teaching). But as said...
neilmac Apr 17, 2020:
My take As I see it, it refers to the academic renown/acknowledgement University garners thanks to its dedication/commitment to the doctorate programme. I understand "realiza" here in the sense of "making real". In other words, recognition the University gets for its doctorate programme. Unless of course it refers to the "exenciones docentes" as some sort of acknowledgement, which would strike me as odd, but then again, you never know.
Chema Nieto Castañón Apr 17, 2020:
I confess I have serious difficulties to understand the original Spanish myself. My own reading is "Academic acknowledgement that the University implements through its commitment to the doctoral program...". This is, how far University's commitment to the doctoral program goes, so as to academically acknowledge the participating staff (as in implementing teaching exemptions). But I am rather unsure as the original rendering sounds awkward to me too.
philgoddard Apr 16, 2020:
I think it could mean "its" or "your".
Maria Gonzalez Apr 16, 2020:
I agree with Robert.
Comunican (asker) Apr 16, 2020:
ah OK yes, that makes sense when looked at that way... thanks Robert
Robert Forstag Apr 16, 2020:
Maybe... Academic recognition attained by the university from its doctoral program (e.g., teaching exemptions).

The Spanish strikes me (a non-native, so take this with a grain of salt) as awkward. This is just a stab in the dark on my part.

for its dedication

Spanish tends to use possessives (its) a bit more than English. I think you could leave it out.

"Academic acknowledgement accorded/given to the University for (its) dedication to the doctorate programme (teaching exemptions)."
Example sentence:

... with exclusive dedication to the doctorate programme in Portugal.

Peer comment(s):

agree Tomasso : sounds right, referential pronoun possesive adjetives can confuse
