Spanish term

recognoscibilidad

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Feminism and animal ethics
SPAIN. From an article on animal ethics and feminism in education. I found "recognoscibility" on a website, but it also spells psychiatry as "pryshiatry", so I'm not very confident about its veracity. My basic doubt is whether it just means "recognisability", or if there is something more to it than that.

"Este cambio de pensamiento tiene una clara conexión con el feminismo (Balza, 2014), pues apuesta por la interseccionalidad y la interdisciplinariedad; por aunar los esfuerzos del feminismo, el anti-capitalismo, los estudios animales, los estudios postcoloniales, los estudios ecologistas para deshacer las divisiones dicotonómicas que crean estrechos marcos de recognoscibilidad y, por tanto, ejercicios de exclusión poco respetuosos con la vida."

frames of recognition

The abstract of your (source) article states,
"The majority of non-human animals are, within capitalism, considered as resources. The carnivorous and specieist, and profoundly anthropocentric ideologies create differential vulnerability. In order to move toward a materialist ecofeminism that has zoe, or life itself, as its core consideration, we take into consideration the ethics of animal liberation, Judith Butler’s philosophy of corporeal vulnerability and the explicitly post-anthropocentric philosophy of Rosi Braidotti in order to raise the need for a materialist citizenship based on life (zoezenship)."

I think this is referencing Judith Butler's work 'Frames of War - When Is Life Grievable?'. In it she has a section on 'Frames of Recognition' which states,

"Frames of Recognition
How then is recognizability to be understood? In the first instance, it is not a quality or potential of individual humans. This may seem absurd asserted in this way, but it is important to question the idea of personhood as individualism. If we claim that recognizability is a universal potential and that it belongs to all persons as persons, then, in a way, the problem before us is already solved. We have decided that some particular notion of "personhood" will determine the scope and meaning of recognizability. Thus, we install a normative ideal as a preexisting condition of our analysis; we have, in effect, already "recognized" everything we need to know about recognition."
https://edisciplinas.usp.br/pluginfile.php/4098884/mod_resou... (pages 5 and 6)

The section is about how recognizability is understood, and I believe that the term 'Frames of Recognition' is the equivalent of 'marcos de recognoscibilidad' in your text.
Note from asker:
That will do nicely, thanks :-)

Recognisability vs Recognizability - What's the difference?
recognisability | recognizability | Alternative forms |

Recognizability is an alternative form of recognisability. Recognisability is an alternative form of recognizability.
As nouns the difference between recognisability and recognizability is that recognisability is the quality of being recognisable while recognizability is (uncountable) the quality of being recognizable.

collectable frameworks

It's a definition I found on a translator tool.
There's a reference to collection development at the National Archives with 'developed tools and guidance to help organizations to review and develop collections, identify gaps and risks, consider short term and long term needs for preservation and access'.
There's also information on the UK implementation of EU data collection framework on the gov.uk web site.

The information explains:
'There's a change of thought which is closely connected with feminism, inclining towards cross-sections and overlapping disciplines, to combine feminist efforts, opposition to capitalism, animal studies, post-colonial and ecological studies, to reverse divisions into separate parts, making narrow signs of recollections or symbols of memoirs, which are therefore exclusive practices with varying relevance or respect to life'

Memoirs are written memories, historical accounts based on personal knowledge or experience.

(Memorias son exposiciones de hechos escritas, y de la conciencia personal o de la historia. Recuerdos no tienen que ser escritos.)

Am too busy doing my own translation to dig further but this article is interesting discussing the Butlerian theory of recognisability and refers to both 'frameworks' and 'frames' of recognisability; https://ecommons.luc.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1175&co...

The Butlerian theory of recognisability provides an important theoretical and pedagogical approach for exploring the conditions of recognition as liveable life, rather than focusing on what works best for increasing teachers’ cosmopolitan awareness.

I regard Butler’s recognisability as a relevant, crucial theoretical framework in order to enrich cosmopolitanism by interrogating privilege and power relations.

While recognition is a practice between subjects, recognisability refers to the more general frames that “prepare or shape a subject for recognition”
Note from asker:
Thanks for sharing. So it's not "recognoscibility", which gets 55 hits and mostly (if not all) appears in texts by non-native authors... :-)
