Saludos

I found this website and used it as guide for naming the different parts of towing hardware components. It is from the US so it only applies for AmE, because I found that in BrE the terms are slightly different so it was very confusing at first.

Yes, I posted it the TCafé as well. :D
Thank you so much for all your answers and comments. I ended up finding the ref. codes of the parts in another section of the document and looked them up in the Land Rover site, and following the image I found in this website https://www.curtmfg.com/basic-towing-components I opted to translated as "trailer hitch", but only because I had the ref codes so I was sure that it was not any other type of hardware.

Hardware ( for hitching trailers/trailer tow bars)

Slightly more generic answer than the previous ones.'Herraje', literally ironmongery, wouldn't work here; it's more commonly used in construction contexts, like for door and window appendages, for example:

Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : This is literally what it means, but I don't think "coupling" is stretching it too far. http://m.interglot.com/es/en/herraje

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm awarding the points to this answer since it is the one that covers a wider range of possibilities and is perfect if we want to keep the ambiguity that "herraje" conveys in Spanish"

coupling

The name for the metal parts that join the car to the trailer are called 'couplings' as they are for the parts joining two train carriages together.
Example sentence:

The coupling is the point of connection between the caravan and the tow vehicle.

Note from asker:
I used "coupling" for the tow ball & pin "enganche", but all the terms are used for this type or parts are kind of confusing.

agree neilmac : It is a type of coupling, although we usually just say "tow bar"...

neutral Jennifer Levey : Your 'coupling' corresponds to the enganche de remolque in the ST; the herraje is the structure that holds the coupling in place at the rear of the vehicle.

neutral Andrew Bramhall : Agree with JL; this only answers part of the question, and not the principal part.

But in the RAE it says herraje is 'Conjunto de piezas de hierro o acero con que se guarnece un artefacto' https://www.rae.es/drae2001/herraje the emphasis being 'conjunto' not a specific or individual part

(tow ball) mount

The ball mount or tow bar tongue is the part of a tow bar to which a tow ball is attached. The ball mount pictured here is a heavy duty removable type. This ball mount features a hole for the tow ball and another two for the hitch pin.

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I don't see how you arrive at this very specific term from a word that means 'hardware'.
