Catalan term

paramola

Catalan to English Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime part of traditional Catalan 'llaut'
Term to describe a part of a traditional Catalan boat, a 'llaut'.

In my text this is called a 'primola' but I think it's incorrect as I can't find mention of it anywhere.

I found a couple of definitions for it in Catalan but can't figure out what the English term is;

It appears to be some kind of wooden plate that the mast emerges from.

the dictionary definition is clear...
Properly speaking, partners, sometimes called carlings, are deck reinforcements.

Now clarified by the file. Clearly Partners.
Note from asker:
Thansk Peter, do you think it might also be a 'mast partner'? It looks like a rectangular structure, like a horizontal plate, in my illustration. mast partner: wood planking or steel plating around a mast hole in a deck to give support to a mast
Great, thanks. I presume the step is the bottom part then.
Thanks so much for your help, Peter! I ended up awarding the points to Sheila though, as she was first to mention 'carling', which was the term I eventually chose.
