David Threadgold, senior vice-president and head of equity research at SwissRe in Tokyo, says: “Five years ago, MTFG would have been much more cautious of being seen to get too close to a consumer finance group for fear of reputational damage and creating the sense that it was unable to pursue such opportunities unaided.
