It is an accepted truth in the telecom industry that wireless subscribers must be in need of more applications. In support of this notion, and the notion of ARPU growth in general, the industry generally looks East to Japan, where wireless service use has been buoyant. There, the ARPUs at market leader DoCoMo (which has around 56 per cent share) grew to Y10,240 (US$92) a month for FOMA subscribers in the quarter ending June 2004, up from Y9,610 in the previous quarter. DoCoMo had 4,583,000 FOMA subscribers in that period.
