An estate usually refers to a private personal real property. An estate sale is the sale of private properties, usually through an auction, otherwise just plain 'garage sale'. It offers a good chance for the sharp-eyes to hunt for antique clocks, etc., and other memorabelia.

Such as a \"baby grand\" piano. The sold items are usually not real properties, ie., not houses or land, but rather household items no longer used by the owners.

It does not have to be done before, or because of, moving house. It does not necessarily have to be an auction.
