This refers to the hideous process of panning and scanning' a cinemascope format film in order to produce a (vaguely) meaningful image in 4:3 TV aspect ratio; this is nothing at all to do with the present context, which is talking about 'scanning' in the electronic / digital sense (as in an office scanner). You might want to go for the properly French 'numérisation', or the franglais verb 'scanner' etc., but I am completely unaware if there is a more specific term for the conversion of the film master negative into a digital signal (presumably for onward processing) — or indeed, for lack of context, it might be referring to the opposite process, that of converting a digital video image into a master negative film image for subsequent theatrical exhibition. Either way round involves an element of 'scanning'
