Hello AllegroTrans and Writeaway (2nd and 3rd posts from the bottom list), I do agree with you. It is an honorary title (I would say in memory of Earl C. Daum in the 1920s) and thus it should not be translated (maybe a footnote should give a quick explanation to the reader).
AllegroTrans Feb 25, 2011:
I think this is the title of a chair (professorship) since asker says "VG" (presumably the present holder's initials) is the Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business
Marlene Nicolas Feb 25, 2011:
Might be just a first name I have met lot of people with "Earl" as their first name
writeaway Feb 25, 2011:
probably the name of a chair. see example: Two Harvard Law School professors have been appointed to faculty chair positions: Jody Freeman LL.M. ’91 S.J.D. ’95 is the Archibald Cox Professor of Law, and Henry Smith is the Fessenden Professor of Law. Freeman and Smith took their new chairs on July 1.

writeaway Feb 25, 2011:
no mystery and not unusual The Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business. The mystery is who was/is Earl C. Daum? My guess is a Dartmouth alumnus who left or donated money to the school.
AllegroTrans Feb 25, 2011:
First name ot title? I think it's his first name, in which case there is no translation
But this begs the question why is he "the Earl C. Daum"
Asker can verify this simply be googling
Scribae-Ling (X) Feb 25, 2011:
Bonjour, Je ne le traduirais pas en français s'agissant d'un nom propre
writeaway Feb 25, 2011:
it's the name of this 'professorship' at Tuck School of Business, which is part of Dartmouth College in the USA. It's an Ivy League school, like Harvard, Yale, etc.
meirs Feb 25, 2011:
Earl is first name here otherwise it is John. C. Smith, Earl of Sherwood Forrest... 1924 is probably the year the position (grant) was founded

chaire Earl C. Daum 1924

Paul Danos is the ninth Dean of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and the Laurence F. Whittemore Professor of Business Administration.
et ce qui suit:
Laurence Frederick Whittemore (...) graduated in 1951 from Yale University, having spent a year at Balliol College, Oxford University. In 1953 he received an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Following service as a U.S. Intelligence Officer in the Western Pacific from 1953-1956, he joined the Wall Street private banking firm Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and became General Partner in 1974.
