English term

a rank and file employee

English to Italian Social Sciences Psychology
io l'ho tradotto come "un lavoratore semplice", inteso senza compiti di responsabilità.
Il contesto: a person with a very responsible job may wish to "shed this" in his leisure hours, but a rank and file employee may seek enhanced personal status by leading others in a sports team or group leisure pursuit

chi è addetto a mansioni meno impegnative

Un'altra possibilità, non sapendo se si tratta di uffici o fabbriche..,
Note from asker:
si riferisce a lavoratori dipendenti in generale

un impiegato semplice

The interpretation sounds correct to me. I would merely suggest "impiegato"as an alternative to "lavoratore".

Or perhaps better,
"un semplice impiegato"
Note from asker:
I guess that's correct, even if in italian 'impiegato' sounds more like a person that works in an office
how does it sound 'dipendente' for employee?
I didn't read pataflo's note.
Peer comment(s):

agree AdamiAkaPataflo : "dipendente", as per asker's comment to doba :-)
