P-O-P signs
This is an advertising medium, probably a type of sign. Based on some descriptions in Japanese sites, blogs, etc., it seems to be something like a lightbox or backlit display. But what is it called in English? "Colton" or "corton" get me nowhere... Yoroshiku!

backlit display
In English, this would be called a "backlit display." Essentially, it is a special film (sometimes referred to as コルトンフィルム) over a light box. I'm not sure where the term コルトン originated, but several Japanese companies manufacture these (such as KC コルトン products from 近畿クラリー株式会社). Blue River Digital of the US has a similar line of products.
