日本が主要な貿易相手国
日本はオーストラリアの最大の貿易相手国で、米国をもしのいでいます。
輸出:日本(18.3%)、米国(8.7%)、中国(8.4%)
輸入:米国(15.8%)、日本(5.3%)、中国(11.0%)
全体:日本(15.1%)、米国(12.6%)、中国(9.8%)
From the numbers given I think I "なんとなく" understand what they are saying, something to the effect that Japan is in front of or ahead of the United States, but I would like to know the following:
1. What exactly does this word mean?
2. What is the verb? It appears to be a verb (moshinogu??), but I was unsuccessful in finding this in my dictionaries.
Thanks.

Hi Conejo! Your "なんとなく" understanding is pretty close to the mark! For translation I already answered your question, which is also my answer to your question 1. below.
Here's my answer to your rest of the questions:
1. What exactly does this word mean? (ALREADY ANSWERED)
2. What is the verb? It appears to be a verb (moshinogu??), but I was unsuccessful in finding this in my dictionaries.
DO NOT LOOK UP BY MOSHINOGU, OR EVEN BY WO-MO-SIHONGU. JUST LOOK UP THE STEM WORD SHINOGU WHOSE KANJI IS 凌ぐ。
AS I ALREADY SAID THE VERB IS SIHONOGU 凌ぐ.
をも ARE, WHEN BROKEN DOWN, TWO WORDS を AND も.
を IS A LITTLE WORD THAT TAKES OBJECT WORD RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT.
りんごをください。翻訳をしました、ETC.
も IS IN THIS CASE "EMPHASIS", LIKE "JAPAN IS BEATING EVEN THE US".
