Discussion

Lara Barnett Mar 10, 2014:
@ Augustin I am aware that you have tried to be helpful. But now there is yet one more incorrect entry in the Kudoz glossary, which is intended for professional translators to use in the future to carry out their work.
Augustin Dragoste Mar 7, 2014:
Please forgive me! I do not argue with anyone. Contrary, I respect you and your opinion! I tried to be helpful.
Lara Barnett Mar 7, 2014:
@ Augustin Why can you not find any examples? I am British and I can guarantee you that this term is WRONG. I do not know why you feel the need to argue with a British native speaker when you offer a false translation to an Asker who was genuinely trying to find the best solution for their client.

"School of foreman" is grammatically incorrect. If you cannot see that you should not be working on a professional translation forum. Also please note that it is translations such as these that cause problems in the British work sector.

Lara Barnett Mar 6, 2014:
@ Augustin Why don't you find me an example of this on the internet? If you are a professional translator this conversation should not actually be happening. Had I used that term even on my translation diploma course, I would have been laughed out of the university.
Augustin Dragoste Mar 6, 2014:
school of foreman Vă rog, domană Barnett, să-mi spuneți cum credeți că ar fi forma corectă? Vă mulțumesc frumos.
Lara Barnett Mar 6, 2014:
"School of foreman" The glossary entry needs to be changed for this term. It is grammatically incorrect, does not mean anything in English, and is not a term that would be easily understood at least in UK.

This is classed as a "professional" question - why not use a professional standard answer for the glossary entry?

Scoala de maistri -Technical School
Dorli Dinescu (asker) Feb 24, 2014:
@Lara, yes, it's only for manual trades.
Lara Barnett Feb 23, 2014:
@ Mihaela I see. But is SCOLII DE MAIȘTRI for only manual trades? There may not be an exact equivalent in UK terminology, but if you can let me know the sorts of vocations/professions this college provides education for, I may be able to find a good alternative. For example, is it only manual, or is it technical and IT also perhaps?
Alice Crisan Feb 21, 2014:
Welding Foreman School
Dorli Dinescu (asker) Feb 21, 2014:
@Lara, he works in welding.
Angela Öhrman Feb 21, 2014:
I have to agree with Lara: it sounds weird
Lara Barnett Feb 21, 2014:
@ Mona Can you describe what the maistri training is actually for? For example what the job role is that the training is supposed to cover?

agree Péter Tófalvi : Fara industrial, si numai in Europa. Am dubii ca in SUA va fi clar si univoc acest termen.

disagree monica sima : In my opinion, master school refers to the post-academic education, after you get a bachelor's degree. Scoala de maistri refers to post-secondary education.

Training college for manual trades (or: construction trades)

I don't think you will find an exact equivalent in English. Most courses in UK for this sort of thing take place in further education colleges which also teach many other subjects.

Therefore I would pull around some terms which are usually just used to describe professions or training courses.
