Translating in Joomla? 投稿者: Alexander Shchekotin (X)

Hello, Some translation assignments these days list a requirement of using Joomla. Joomla is astually a CMS like many others out there. What does "translation in Joomla" mean, and how it should be priced? I feel it is quite time consuming to copy-paste translated text into a CMS, does Joomla offer some kind of automated text import or other features that would be helpful to a translator? Thank you for sharing the experience. Alexander. | | | EHI (X) Local time: 07:16
Well, I suppose it simply means you should know how to use Joomla. If you know how to edit articles in Joomla, you know how to translate them. It's all quite simple, which I suppose is the whole point of a CMS. I haven't heard of any extensions that assist you in translating the atricles, but there are some that will help you keep a multilingual website organised. | | | Managing multilingual content in Joomla | Feb 2, 2009 |
Hi Alexander, They probably mean using Joom!Fish http://www.joomfish.net/ This is actually a Joomla application used to manage multilingual websites. Sherefedin
It has to be JoomFish! for sure. I actually use it in my websites and I think it's great.

I have so far had only one request that involved Joom!Fish. Am now wondering if I should check out the software after all. | | | Post removed: This post was hidden by a moderator or staff member for the following reason: Removed as requested by poster |

So much for spending two hours downloading, installing and configuring Joomla, all for nothing. There is some or other weird setting in Joomfish that escaped me, no doubt. The upside is that Joomfish is a "native" plugin for Joomla, which means you can upload the Joomfish zip file and have it activated in Joomla in one step... that is, as long as all your other settings are in order.
Joomfish does not yet support any export format useful for translators (I have made a point to the developers years ago about xliff but it has not yet been implemented). The simplest way is to log in to joomla and copy the html code of the articles you want translated into an empty html document. | | | EasyLSP アイルランド Local time: 06:16 英語 から ドイツ語 Align and Concordance? | Mar 25, 2009 |

If I start a completely new project in joomfish, would it make sense to initially translate in the UI that is provided by jf, and copy the html code of both SL and TL(s) into separate documents for alignment? Aligned data can then be imported in a project TM and this can at least be used to make concordance checks? With this, translation can take place in the jf UI for updates etc and consistency is given due to the concordance checks. However, the maintenance of the project TM is a complete must and has to be taken into account over the length of the entire project. What's your thoughts on this if in the future no conversion or export function will be implemented in jf? ▲ Collapse | | | Arancho Doc (X) イタリア Local time: 07:16 英語 から イタリア語 + ... joomla export-translate-import process | Dec 9, 2009 |
Hi everybody, since we plan to localize our joomla-based website into many languages (at the moment we have 3) fairly soon, we decided to try and develop a solution for optimizing and managing the localization process with the help of CAT tools. The resulting process works something like this: "export content in English->translate with CAT tools->import localized content". So far this process has proved pretty stable and, apart from saving time and money during the initial set-up phase, I’m sure this way of working will be a great help when it comes to managing updates in the future. Being a Translation & Localization company, we have quite a bit of experience of the difficulties in handling multilingual websites (identifying and extracting content that requires localization, maintaining translation consistency, reimporting localized texts correctly, etc). Feel free to contact us if you want more information on this. Best regards, Luigi of Ic.Doc

Content export for Joomla | May 16, 2013 |
Hello, This thread is quite old, however there is now an addon component for Joomla (versions 1.5-2.5) that allows exporting contents to Trados or other CAT tools and then reimport them to Joomla preserving formatting in translated texts. It's called Joomcat (joomcat.com) and here is the link: www.joomcat.com Hope that helps | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Translating in Joomla?
