I'm afraid I don't understand the question...

Just found this on http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/pay%20your%20dues.html:
"If you have paid your dues, you have had your own struggles and earned your place or position."

Agree with everyone Mar 29, 2010

I don't get the question like everybody else; however, my interpretation would be something like "have you fulfilled your vows as a translator" (as if in religion), meaning have you fulfilled what you are supposed to do as a translator.

Webster paper dictionary 1993 Mar 29, 2010

Pay one's dues (slang): to earn certain rights, privileges, etc. as by having suffered in struggle.

So it might mean: did you have to struggle a lot to become a translator/interpreter?

Philippe

sorry... I don't understand the question...

According Webster paper dictionary 1993 definition reported by Philippe (Pay one's dues (slang): to earn certain rights, privileges, etc. as by having suffered in struggle.
So it might mean: did you have to struggle a lot to become a translator/interpreter?) I would say no...
