I have a Motorol Droid2 (android phone), which I do use occasionally to access the internet, but, frankly, not much.
Since I work at home, on a computer, I don't need to much.
One thing I do routinely, however, is:

I have a dokuwiki installation on a server here in my office, and I keep a grocery list on a page therein (http://blinguas.homelinux.net/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=groclist), which I will edit while I'm at home, and, then I can view it on my phone when I get to the grocery store.
I occasionally check e-mails while out of the office using the phone, but I don't get out much, so that's infrequent. ▲ Collapse

I usually use the cable connection at home. If I'm out and about, I check e-mail using wifi at my favorite coffeehouses. If I don't have the laptop with me and I absolutely need to check mail, I'll use a PC at a photocopy shop. But that's a rare occurrence.
A few months ago I took a 13-hour train ride with no wifi connection and I have to say, it was a wonderfully relaxing and productive ride. It's good to disconnect from the internet on occasion.

When at home I use my ASDL-connection but as a back-up - if I have problems with the home-network, and when I am on the move, I use my MEGAFAST mobile internet-connection.
In addition, all e-mails are forwarded to an account on my cell phone so I get a signal each time a new e-mail arrives. Within a minute I know that I have an e-mail to read and regardless of whether I am at my computer (then I check my e-mail on the computer of course) or if I am walking the dog or whatever (then... Over the last eighteen months, I've had one PC die on me, another one become severely sick, and have suffered extreme stress when I have been forced (through failure of fixed broadband) to use mobile access.
I'm sure that when it works it's all very good, but if you live in an area where the coverage is poor then it's a total nightmare.

Will it give me a blue screen of death eight times a day (thus leading to aforementioned dead PC after a fortnight)? Is it windy, thereby causing the thing to connect *even more slowly*? In what ridiculous position will I have to perch the PC to get it to work this afternoon? (Not to mention the twice daily phonecalls to the broadband provider to try to get the fixed access back as promised...)
I love the idea of wireless and mobile connections, it's just that for me the reality seems to fall far short of useability! ▲ Collapse

When I'm on the move, I log in to Messenger on my phone. And I always use it to check emails, check what the local movie theaters are showing, book a table somewhere, chat with a friend while waiting, etc., etc.

Who said anything about work? You can use mobile Internet for a whole range of things. I use it for checking weather forecasts when I'm out an about, getting film times if I'm off to the cinema, etc.

When I am not working, I enjoy being connected to the real world and real life for a change, and get back to their virtual equivalent only when I get tired of reality. Time to get back to work then!
