Probably written by a Spanish speaker. ¿Cuánto cobras? i.e. How much do you charge?
Where are my posts? | Aug 2, 2011 |
I posted a reply three times and it dissapeared in the cyberspace.
Since my last post has been succesful, I am reposting what I did 1 hour ago, but somehow was hidden: "How much do you charge? = ¿Cuánto cobras? in Spanish. The author might have mixed it up or used some kind of Spanglish.

Automated translation? | Aug 2, 2011 |
Hi Lany, "cobrás" is the second person in singular from the verb "cobrar" in Spanish which translates "to charge" in English. I think the sender used an automated translation software that mixed up this verbal form and word used for the snake. Are we so irreplaceable? Regards, Anne Laure

As the the Spanish thing. Yes, probably it, the text was for English to Spanish. I asking him what safety measure would be taken to ship all these cobras so that no one would get hurt. I then asked for them to have nametags saying Mr. Hissypants. I don't think I'll get my cobras

Yes, this is what I had in mind. The form "Quanto cobras?" is also used in the Portuguese of Southern Brazil (Paraná and down to the Uruguay/Argentine border). In the rest of the country the second person is never used (except in the Bible) so the form would be "Quanto cobra?" - maybe a bit less frightening with only one snake involved. The conjugation in Portuguese is: COBRAR: eu cobro, [tu cobras], ele/ela cobra, nós cobramos, [vós cobrais], eles/elas ... See more Yes, this is what I had in mind. I love your hilarious reply! I've been paid not in money but in kind before, but it wasn't as exciting as "8 cobras per word"! A graphic artist gave me 10 copies of his published book for a one-paragraph translation I did.

God be with you Henry. Well, if cobras are involved (whatever rates you'll manage to negotiate), I guess God should stay with you indeed

I did get a few replies, but it was the standard automatic ones, at no point my cobra issues were addressed. I also asked to get rattlesnakes instead, I figured with so many of them I could train them to rattle to a beat and make pretty awesome music.
