Proofreading ot translation and proofreading? Jun 10, 2002

Nina, hello,

Yes, it is getting worse and worse.

But this guy\'s offer is far from clear. Is this a proofreading or a translation job?

Can\'t figure it out.

But even for proofreading, the rate is low if there is a lot to correct, and I guess there is.

This is clearly not the posting of a professional.

It's awful, but it's market... Jun 10, 2002

Hi everyone,

I also work in a VERY popular pair - English-Russian and I should say, that there is a definite trend to lowering the rates.

At the Russian translation market USD 5/1800 symbols (roughly 1,5 cents per word) is considered the average market rate, but recently I\'ve received quite a number of letters from agencies saying: \"our rates for translators are USD 2(or even USD 1)/1800 symbols...\"

The main thing is that they wouldn\'t put up such rat

Hi everyone,

I also work in a VERY popular pair - English-Russian and I should say, that there is a definite trend to lowering the rates.

At the Russian translation market USD 5/1800 symbols (roughly 1,5 cents per word) is considered the average market rate, but recently I\'ve received quite a number of letters from agencies saying: \"our rates for translators are USD 2(or even USD 1)/1800 symbols...\"

The main thing is that they wouldn\'t put up such rates if there were no people willing to work for that much. We could price ourselves decently, but other people would do the same job for much less - sometimes they are not even much worse in terms of quality; they just AGREE to earn less because they want to get the job.

I just think it\'s the classical case - the supply of workforce exceeds the demand for it, that\'s all...
